I want you to focus on the word "might" when I say what I'm about to say. Hannibal, Missouri and Quincy, Illinois MIGHT get a white Christmas after all. Here's another word to keep in mind. It's the word "maybe".

Remember when we asked recently about the chances of a white Christmas? That is looking more likely as of now.

I noticed that The Weather Channel's 10-day forecast which now includes Christmas mentions a very good chance we'll see some type of snow right before Christmas. Let me be specific. For Thursday, December 21, here's what they say is forecast (as of this writing) for the Quincy, IL/Hannibal, MO area:

Windy. Snow during the morning will transition to snow showers during the afternoon...Chance of snow 70%. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected.

I also checked the National Weather Service and their extended outlook agrees that it's likely our area will see some amount of snow on Thursday, December 21. There are forecasts that call for more or less, but generally there is some type of measurable snowfall possible.

Here's another reason why this MIGHT mean we'll have a white Christmas. We know that temps will remain below freezing easily through Christmas Day which means any snow we MIGHT get will stay if it happens at all.

Now, take a deep breath and keep in mind that weather is changeable especially when you're trying to forecast snow this far away from the date you're looking at. However, the chance looks pretty solid at this point that Hannibal and Quincy will have snow on the ground for Christmas Day. So, if you're a fan of white Christmases, you should be happy. Maybe.
