Doomsday Plane Spotted Over Illinois Today-Twice

Whenever someone sees something strange, they tend to reach out to me. I'll take that as a compliment. Today, I heard through the grapevine that some believed they saw an odd plane over a few places in Illinois. I can confirm that they weren't hallucinating as a doomsday plane was indeed flying over the Land of Lincoln today - twice.

One of my favorite new websites is the Military Aircraft Tracker. It specializes in keeping tabs on when the E-4B Nightwatch is activated. If you're not familiar, this is the command and control aircraft designed to run the US government in the event of a catastrophe like nuclear war. Well, one of these bad boys was in the air Monday and its flight path took it over Illinois a couple times.

Before you go running to your doomsday bunker to prepare for the end, this isn't that unusual. That big yellow dot on the Military Aircraft Tracker map is Offutt Air Force Base in southeastern Nebraska. That's the home of part of the doomsday plane fleet so it's typical to see these aircraft leave Offutt and head off to wherever they're headed to. It's not typical to see the flight path I saw it take Monday. In the past, I've seen E-4B Nighwatch planes head to the east coast from Nebraska. It appears to have flown over or near Stout Field in Indianapolis and then headed back to Nebraska. I can't tell from the flight plan if it landed or not.

For the record, in case you think I'm sharing classified information, think again. The flight path of many military planes like the E-4B Nightwatch is often visible to everyone. Why that is I do not know, but if a nobody like me can look it up whenever I am curious, it's not classified information. Otherwise, there would be men in black at my front door. Oh, wait.
