In case you were living under a rock, both Missouri and Illinois will see an influx of over a million cicadas starting in late April//early May. This will be the largest cicada invasion of both states in more than 200 years involving the rare occurrence when two major broods of cicadas will enter Missouri and Illinois at the same time.

The University of Connecticut just shared maps which forecast where the cicada broods will be most dominant. This is Brood XIX which is the most prominent.

When you take a step back at all the different broods of cicadas and where they'll flourish in 2024, it's jaw-dropping.

When will this cicada invasion of Missouri and Illinois begin?

Once Spring is in full swing in late April into early May, you'll see cicadas...lots and lots of cicadas. The good news is they have a very short life span as the Museum of Natural History mentions. We could see a replay of what happened in Illinois a few years ago when people in Chicago were shoveling dead cicadas like they were a big snowstorm. 2024 will likely be a replay to an even bigger degree.
