Missouri is a state full of great things you can do. This is definitely on the list of things you shouldn't even think about attempting. As a matter of fact, don't even bother trying to visit the terrifying swinging bridge in Missouri. I'll explain the multitude of reasons why.

The swinging bridge I'm referring to is located near Brumley, Missouri and it is a very historic expanse that once was vital to travel in that part of the state a really long time ago.

If this swinging bridge in Missouri is historic, why shouldn't anyone go there?

Let's begin with the "you should never even think of driving over it" part. First of all, it's not possible as the bridge is closed and even if it weren't, many who traversed it in the past talk about what a terrifying experience it was.

Based on the most recent reviews on Trip Advisor, you can't even walk across the Swinging Bridge near Brumley, Missouri either. Many referred to it as "hard to find" and "not worth your time". Even those that managed to hike up to the bridge were underwhelmed with what they found.

A few years ago, I heard about an effort to save this historic Missouri bridge, but I'm uncertain if any repairs or restoration were ever completed. I did see an encouraging update from a group of volunteers on April 2, 2024 that said a referendum passed that will fund restoration which would be great news.

My advice is to wait until this restoration is complete before you even think of visiting this interesting Missouri landmark. Perhaps then it will go from terrifying to historic and interesting again.
