Why Are There So Many Grasshoppers in Illinois Right Now?
Illinois Grasshoppers You Might See
I was out walking the other day and noticed the number of grasshoppers everywhere. It seemed like they were jumping and flying all over the place. Why are there so many?
Grasshoppers aren't the worst bugs out there, but when you're walking and one suddenly jumps out of nowhere, they can scare you to death. That's exactly what happened to me while I was out walking. It seemed like grasshoppers were jumping out of every piece of grass I walked by, and they were scaring the daylights out of me.
To make matters worse, I was listening to a true-crime podcast at the time. So, when I was already listening to a scary part of the podcast, and then a grasshopper suddenly jumped out, it definitely added to the effect.
Why Are There So Many Grasshoppers Right Now?
Well, it looks like it's a combination of weather conditions. With the dry summer we've had, more grasshopper eggs were able to hatch, and now they seem to be everywhere.
Leave it to Mother Nature to give me yet another reason to want to stay indoors!
I guess we should all prepare ourselves for the overpopulated grasshopper takeover of 2026. (OK, maybe I'm exaggerating just a little)
As for me, I may start walking later in the day after the sun goes down. Either way, it will be cold soon, and the grasshoppers will eventually disappear...hopefully.
