There is something about going to a children's museum and being able to interact with exhibits, playing and climbing, and learning and Illinois has two of the very best children's museums in the nation.

Yes, we love going to the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium, but those are not as fun as interacting with exhibits at children's museums. Illinois is lucky enough to have two of the vest best children's museums. Parents.com has named the top 15 children's museums in the nation and the Kohl Children's Museum in Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry.

Kohl Children's Museum

The museum is named after the daughter of the founder of Kohl's Department stores and opened in 1985. Moving in 2005 to its current location in Glenview< Illinois the building is a 46,700-square-foot playground for learning and playing for kids (and adults). Kids are able to learn about music, science, and math all while playing and having fun, and isn't that what learning is all about, having fun?

The 17 exhibits at Kohl aren't just about play and learning; they're about empowerment and acceptance too. Kids play cooperatively, gain confidence, and discover things about themselves

Museum of Science and Industry

One of my family's favorite places to visit when we go to Chicago. This museum lets guest get to interact with exhibits and learn about science. You can ride the full-size coal mine elevator, check out the German submarine, and the large model railroad of the entire city. It's such a cool place to just spend hours learning and exploring.

For kids 10 and under, you'll definitely want to head to the Idea Factory, which caters just to them with interactive geometry and physics-focused activities.

I'm really not surprised that both of these made it on the top 15 list, they are both great places to have a fun day and learn. Even though kids might not think they are learning, they are.
