With the World Cup descending upon Kansas City this summer, the state of Missouri is bracing for the influx of visitors from around the globe. Yes, the whole state will feel the effects of the six matches that will occur at Arrowhead Stadium in June and July. Hopefully lessons are learned, because Missouri has already been tabbed for another global event in 2028.

The 2028 Summer Olympics will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in July, but several Olympic soccer matches will be played in several cities across the country, not just southern California. St. Louis is on that list, and Energizer Park is where those St. Louis matches will be played. Other cities include: New York, Columbus, OH, and Nashville, TN, along with San Jose and San Diego, CA. Those cities and stadiums will be utilized for group stage and knockout matches in front of the gold medal game which will be in Los Angeles, CA.

Olympic soccer isn’t as big an event as the World Cup, but fans from all over the planet will be coming to America in 2028 for the Olympics, and St. Louis is now on that destination map. For now, we’ll have to wait for teams and matchups. Including St. Louis in the games following Kansas City hosting World Cup matches shines a light on Missouri soccer culture. St. Louis is in a supportive position for this summer's cup matches (as is the rest of the region surrounding KC). In 2028 the Gateway city will get to show what it learned from this summers experiences.
