If you’ve noticed grocery stores packed over the past few days, you’re not alone. While food is important, there are several other preparedness items you should also consider before the storm hits.
Before the Storm
- Stock Up Early: Make sure you have plenty of water and non-perishable food
- Prep Your Car: havea full tank, ice scraper, and blankets
- Know your heat plan: Extra blankets, space heater safety rules, and fireplace readiness.
- Charge everything: Phones, power banks, weather radios
During the Storm
- Stay Home and Stay off the Roads
- Layer up indoors and close off unused rooms to conserve heat.
- Never use grills or generators indoors—carbon monoxide is deadly and odorless.
- Check on neighbors, especially elderly or those living alone.
If You Lose Power
- Keep Fridge/Freezer Closed
- Use flashlights, not candles
- Run generators outdoors only
After the Storm
- Watch for black ice - especially on bridges and shaded roads.
- Clear vents and exhaust pipes from snow buildup.
- Report downed power lines—never approach them.

Be safe and careful this weekend, and remember spring starts on March 20.
