Heavy December Snow Could Lead to Missouri’s Biggest Snowman Ever

With all the snow falling as December begins, you are going to see lots of snowmen on duty throughout the state of Missouri. Depending on snow amounts, snow quality, and most importantly–your gumption, you may build the biggest snowman in Missouri history.

Cuba, Missouri welcomes winter and snowmen

The current recognized record for snowman height in Missouri is 19 feet. That extra-sized man of snow was built in Cuba, Missouri in 2019 by Rosendo and Jose Romo. Certainly big enough to be impressive, but a record that may seem attainable to those who have ideas on building a 20 foot tall snowman.

This Kansas City duo delighted in a snowman twice their size

Bigger snowmen have been built, but not in Missouri. In Potsdam, New York there was a 24 foot tall snowman erected earlier this year. Impressive for sure, but not as tall as the 40 foot giant snowman built in Minocqua, Wisconsin as a yearly event, named “Snowmy Kromer”.  Wisconsin also was the place where a 40 foot snowman was built in Milltown by a group affiliated with a construction company. Minnesota had a 50-plus-foot giant snowman built in 2014 in rural Foley by farmer Greg Novak. Then there’s the current world record holder, the impossibly tall 122 foot snowman in Bethel, Maine, that was a community project, and used actual trees as the arms…(!!!)

Wisconsin’s “Snowmy Kromer” is an annual construction that sits outside the town’s welcome center, and looks more like a giant, three layer wedding cake. The Maine Giant appears as if it was a pile of snow that the community kept adding to. There are other monumental snowmen out there, but they have been constructed to stand regardless of snowfall, meaning…they aren’t made of snow. Ultimately, they are oversized monuments to what others have made with snow.
