Missouri Mansion Where the Past Still Walks the Halls
There are many haunted opportunities to explore in the Show-Me state. There are several paranormal teams to seek out, haunted tours, and locations that are known for spectral activity. It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to ghosts and spooky occurrences. Some places in Missouri, though may not focus on the spirits within their walls, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t active…all year round.

A visit to the Bothwell Lodge north of Sedalia, Missouri, along Highway 65 could possibly introduce you to one of their ghosts on the grounds. It’s not something they highlight, but the staff is aware of paranormal activity at the mansion.
Bothwell Lodge is certainly worth a visit just to take a tour and learn about how it was built and the history that surrounds it. During a visit there with my wife, as we were descending the stairs from one of the many bedrooms to a central hall, we were trailing behind our touring group, my wife took a left confidently as if that’s where the group had gone. Except the rest of the group ended up in the central hall to the right. When she realized that she took a wrong turn, she backtracked to me as I stood in between her and the gathered group with our guide. My wife explained that she was just following the person with the old clothes on….
Pay attention to who is in your tour group, and who your guides are
Our guide stopped the tour and asked what my wife saw. My wife said a person in period proper clothing was at the bottom of the stairs, with his back to my wife and walked to the left. My wife just followed as if that’s where we were all going. She seemed confused as she came back to join us, because to the left was another room with nobody in it. The guide calmly stated that guests will sometimes see people in clothing that would’ve been in style in the early 20th century. The people that are seen are ghosts. They aren’t people working there, and it’s not part of the tour. We all kept our eyes wide for the rest of the tour.
