Fun Idea Turns into Growing Illinois Business in Just Months
Do you have an idea that you think is interesting and fun? Something that you are interested in that others could participate in? Make it. Create it. Bring it to reality. Don’t end up saying “What if?”
We've all been here
This past spring Chicagoan Matt Dolan took the mini golf concept and shrunk it down further, creating Putterbird mini putting greens. Initially he made 9 holes with different designs/obstacles and difficulties. Then he rented them out for a graduation party in June and word got around. Now he has his weekends booked through the end of October for receptions, and parties.
Eventually he will complete the full 18 holes. His love of golf and growing passion of woodworking came together to create a whole new business. A good reminder that the idea you’ve been sitting on could be the one that catches on. Putterbird is a fun concept. It’s not re-inventing anything really. It’s just taking something that already exists and making it available to be used in a more personal way, and doing it well enough that people will pay to use what you made.
Putterbird has growth possibilities in several areas
Will this business grow to be something where Matt makes specific holes that other people design? Or will it continue to grow as a rentable party game? Both, maybe? Right now, he has the mini putting green course game to himself, but eventually there will be others, perhaps in other cities. who will make a similar product once they realize there is a market for it.

Make your thing. Bring your idea to life. Enjoy it. If for nothing else to be able to not have to someday say “What If?”.
