Adams County Police Launch St. Patrick’s Day DUI Crackdown
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation, is teaming up ahead of St. Patrick’s Day to remind drivers about the consequences of drinking and driving.
Police Prepare for St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations
With many people expected to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend and on the holiday itself, Tuesday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to remember the dangers of getting behind the wheel after drinking.
From March 13 through 6 a.m. on March 23, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Department of Transportation will launch a stepped-up traffic safety campaign.
Increased Patrols Target Impaired Drivers
“With St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Tuesday this year, we expect celebrations throughout the entire week — plus the weekends before and after,” said Sgt. Jake McMahon. “We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly. Plan ahead for a sober ride home before you leave the house — your safety and the safety of others depend on it.”
During this time, officers will be out looking for impaired drivers, which includes alcohol and cannabis, along with other drugs. Officers will also step up seat belt checks.

The St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” enforcement campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by IDOT.
