Jesse James is one of the most controversial characters in Missouri history. To some he was a hero while many considered him the worst kind of outlaw. There is one home that contains history no one disagrees on. It's the Missouri home where Robert Ford murdered Jesse James.

The city of St. Joseph shares the following very direct statement about this home:

Notorious outlaw Jesse James was shot and killed in this house on April 3, 1882. He was killed by Bob Ford, a member of the James gang, to collect a $10,000 reward offered by Governor Tom Crittenden.

It doesn't sound like they agree with the "murder" characterization of what Robert Ford did to Jesse James so I guess we all don't agree on that. One YouTuber recently visited this historic home and shared some views from inside.

You can start to absorb the history even before going in the home starting with the sign outside.

There are numerous artifacts in the home left by the James family including pictures and relics from the 1995 exhumation where DNA tests 99.7% confirmed that Jesse James was the one buried in Kearney, Missouri as History documents.

Jesse James and most of the famous figures from the wild west were complicated people. Very rarely was someone always on the right or wrong side of the law. Heroes and villains were hard to tell apart in those days. No matter your view of Jesse James, this home is a vital place to visit to see his history for yourself if that era in Missouri interests you.
