This is one of the reasons why I enjoy movies from SyFy. It was 16 years ago when they created a movie about a black hole that destroyed St. Louis. If you haven't seen it, you need to as it's one of the most unintentionally funny flicks you can possibly watch.

The movie is called "The Black Hole" and starred The Breakfast Club star Judd Nelson among others. Here's the IMDb synopsis of what "The Black Hole" was all about:

An atomic research experiment goes awry in St. Louis, Missouri unleashing not only a big black hole, but also a creature from beyond that feeds on electricity through the streets of this Midwest city.

Before I dig into the science, watch the trailer for yourself.

This is a SyFy movie so regular physics need not apply, but let's pretend they do. Live Science shared an article about how close you can get to a black hole without being annihilated. Without getting into insane math, suffice it to say that IF a black hole were anywhere close to St. Louis (or Earth for that matter), we'd all be so goners that even 100 B-actors couldn't save us.

I won't spoil it for you, but make sure you stick around until the end when Judd Nelson is fleeing in a van. Trust me it's worth it.

Good news is that thanks to Amazon, you can watch The Black Hole for free. Grab some popcorn and be prepared to laugh. It's the most fun you can have watching St. Louis battling a black hole ever. You are welcome.
