Slowly we are recovering for the Coronavirus pandemic and the news lately, at least in our area, has been positive. That positive news is much needed unless you are a newly adopted pet.

The numbers in certain parts of the United States are starting to show that with more people returning to their workplace and traveling more now, people are less likely to be able to care for their pet and that has pet shelters worried.

According to an news report on FOX31 television in Denver, Colorado  https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/pets-adopted-pandemic-returned-record-numbers-report, people are having a change of heart and are returning their pets to shelters which is breaking the heart of the pets being relocated. Shelter officials are quick to remind pet owners that a change of familiar locales is difficult for pets to process.

What's happening is these pets are not fitting into people's lifestyles as those new lifestyles return to some degree of normalcy in 2021.  The same thing isn't necessarily happening in other shelters across the country though as CBS 6 in Albany, New York reports that the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society is not seeing an increase of returned pets, at least not yet https://cbs6albany.com/news/local/pets-meant-to-bring-companionship-during-pandemic-are-being-brought-back-to-animal-rescues .

Locally, the Quincy Humane Society's Mutt Strut is one of the largest fundraising events of the year.  This year's Mutt Strut theme is "Spring Bark in The Park" and will be held this Saturday (May 22) at Wavering Park from 9:30 to 12:30.

Saturday's pet-friendly event encourages the community to come together, with their canine friends, and enjoy a strut with their mutt, and give pet owners the opportunity to check out local pet-related vendors as well.

This year's event will be the 27th anniversary for this wonderful fundraiser which will enable the Humane Society in Quincy to continue to provide the necessary funds needed to provide the best care for their animals.
