With the holiday travel season almost upon us, the cost of getting to Grandma's house will be cheaper.

The cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas continues to fall across the country. The national average price of gas stands at $2.86, five cents less than a week ago and 27 cents less than a month ago. Last year at this time, a gallon of gas cost $3.20.

According to Missouri Gas Prices Dot Com, the average price of gas stands at $2.65, down eleven cents in the last week and 21 cents since last year. The cheapest gas in Missouri is $2.38 in St. John; the most expensive is $3.19 in Cape Girardeau.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Illinois stands at $2.97, down 24 cents in the last month and 28 cents since last year. The cheapest gas in the Land of Lincoln is $2.45 in Rochelle, while the other end of the spectrum shows gas at $3.99 in Maywood.

As of Tuesday morning, Quincy gas prices range from $2.85 to $2.96. In Hannibal, prices range from $2.71 to $2.75.
