Recent Midwest rains result in a sharp rise in levels on the Mississippi River, and flood warnings being posted from Canton to Clarksville.

The National Weather Service posted the warnings until further notice Sunday night.

Early Monday morning, the stage at Lock and Dam 20 at Canton stood at 13.77. Flood stage is 14 feet. A crest of 14.9 is expected early Wednesday morning.

Hannibal's early morning reading was 16.29 feet. Flood stage is 16. A crest of 17.5 is predicted for Wednesday morning.

At Louisiana, the Monday morning stage was 15.29. Flood stage is 15 feet. A crest of 17.4 at Louisiana is expected Wednesday evening.

At Clarksville, the reading was 25.55. Flood stage is 25 feet. They're expecting a crest of 28.3 Thursday morning.

Good chances of rain are predicted throughout the coming week in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.
