Flood Gates Going In Along the Hannibal Riverfront
Work crews began setting the flood gates along the Hannibal riverfront at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
As of 10:15 Thursday morning, the Mississippi River at Hannibal was at 19.56 feet with a forecast crest on Monday at 21.7 feet. The forecast is based on past precipitation and precipitation forecast over the next 24 hours. That’s high enough to force installation of the flood gates along the Hannibal riverfront. Hannibal Emergency Management Director John Hark says all five gates must be installed if the river is expected to rise above 21.5 feet.
At Quincy, the Mississippi is at 18.53 feet at 10:15 Thursday morning, with a crest expected at 21.2 feet Monday morning.
The river at Canton is at 14.74 as of 10 a.m. with a crest forecast at 17.6 feet Monday afternoon.
At Louisiana, the Mississippi is at 18.47 with a crest expected at 20.8 feet Monday.
