Yeah, I know what you're thinking and I didn't believe it at first either. But this one's actually true. While I was skeptical, I'm actually getting some cash from the State of Illinois for unclaimed property.

My sister-in-law sent me a link to the Illinois State Treasury the other day after seeing my name connected to six unclaimed properties. After answering a few questions (you know, to make sure I am who I say I am), I'm looking at an extra $37!

So how do you find out if you have any unclaimed property? First, find the Illinois State Treasury website, then click on "get started". From there, fill out the requested information and it'll guide you through the rest. Once you find your name and the address that matches your name, you will receive and email with further instructions on how to proceed to get your unclaimed property.

If you do have unclaimed property, there is a form to fill out and you must get it notarized. Once the Illinois State Treasury receives your claim form and documentation, your claim will be placed in line for review. Your claim cannot be processed without these documents. So yeah, there's some government hoops to jump through, but it's worth it.

Now what should I do with my $37? Man, that's a tough one. Maybe go to a movie, put gas in my car, or get a haircut. So many options! But a good problem to have.
