A St. Louis area family was rescued from a flooded Marion County road Sunday afternoon.

Palmyra Fire Chief Gary Crane reports an emergency call came in about 5 p.m. Sunday. Responders found five people on top of a submerged vehicle on County Road 337 northwest of Palmyra. The driver had apparently tried to drive on the flooded road.

Authorities say three men who were fishing in the area assisted in getting the family out of the vehicle.

The family, a mother and four children ages five to 14, were not hurt and did not require medical attention.

Agencies responding included the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the State Highway Patrol and the State Water Patrol.
