Cookie Walk – Probably Not What You Think It is

In our hometown of Winchester, Illinois, this past Saturday was their annual Hometown Christmas celebration. There were special deals in the shops around the square, the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile was in town (I know, that's not very Christmasy), there was a parade in the evening. And, the Christian Church hosted a Cookie Walk.

The church has been doing this at Christmas time for a number of years, and we had been to cookie walks at other churches over the years.

But, I had found, in previous conversations and even on Saturday, there were people who had no idea what a cookie walk was.

One person asked me, "Is that like a cake walk?"

No. Completely different.

For future reference, here's how a cookie walk works:

In the case of this church, anyone who wishes to can bring their favorite kind of cookie, brownie, fudge or the like (the majority are homemade, but they don't have to be).

The treats are displayed on tables as far as the eye can see. The church provides plastic to-go containers and plastic gloves and you work your way around the room picking your favorites until you've filled your container.

When you're done, some nice ladies weigh your container and you pay by the pound.

So, if anyone invites you to a cookie walk, go. You can tell 'em I sent you if you like, but I doubt it would do any good.
