Canton, IL Couple Arrested on Drug, Tampering Charges

A man and woman from Canton, Illinois are in custody on multiple charges.

The Hannibal Fire Department was called Thursday night about a fire in the 4000 block of Cheyenne, while Hannibal Police investigated a report of a suspicious person in the 300 block of Munger Lane.

Officers found a truck and trailer parked in the woods off Cheyenne.

An investigation revealed the truck had been stolen out of Coffee County, Kansas and the trailer was stolen out of Schuyler County, Missouri.

As a result, 38 year old Seth Murphy and 40 year old Betty Knutter, both of Canton, Illinois, were taken into custody.

Knutter had an outstanding warrant from Kansas for distribution of a controlled substance.

A warrant was issued Friday charging Murphy with tampering with a motor vehicle.

A search of the truck and trailer resulted in the seizure of a number of items. Detectives are working with law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Illinois and Missouri to return recovered property.

Knutter and Murphy remain in custody.
