Brokes in Custody Following Officer Involved Shooting in Monroe City

A man described as a person of interest in the shooting death of a Hannibal woman is in custody.  The arrest of 34-year-old Timothy Brokes followed an officer involved shooting incident in Monroe City Wednesday night.  Brokes was wanted for murder, another shooting and a kidnapping that occurred in Marion County Tuesday night.

Brokes was taken into custody at US 24 and Elm Street in Monroe City. Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn says a local business owner called 9-1-1 saying he thought he saw Brokes and a woman walking outside. A resulting well being check led to an exchange of gunfire between authorities and Brokes. Reports indicate Brokes and an officer were taken away in ambulances.

The woman identified as June Bea Smith is reported in good condition. Smith was the subject of an endangered person advisory issued Wednesday afternoon.
