After a turbulent few months, the boys of Restless Road are smiling again. Jared Keim is a new face, replacing Colton Pack who quit in February. While the change presented some struggles, it's clear those have been left on the side of the road to rot.

Keim, Andrew Scholz and Zach Beeken recently visited with Taste of Country, dishing on everything from influences and new music to being overwhelmed on the Demi Lovato tour. They also told a few stories about former 'X Factor' coach Simon Cowell.

"One word that describes Simon Cowell is 'diva,'" Beeken says. "He’s great, I love him. And I’m sure he’d even admit it -- he is a diva."

"When ‘X Factor’ goes to commercial break he would have all the people come over and fix his hair and touch him up," he reveals.

Scholz recalls Cowell's assistants rushing over with a plate of British chocolates during soundcheck breaks. “Those are the perks of him being a diva. Because we got to eat the chocolate,” he says, laughing.

The pop-country trio got enough good advice from Cowell to finish third during Season 3 of 'X Factor,' but shortly after that, Pack announced he was going to fly solo. Restless Road immediately assured fans they'd survive, and began searching for a replacement. Keim had put a cover of Dan + Shay's 'Out Here' to Facebook, and somehow the duo found it, and him.

“I was telling my mom that I really wanted to go to Nashville because I think country music is what I wanted to do, and then this happened,” Keim shares.

Keith Urban, Johnny Cash and Rascal Flatts are artists who've influenced Restless Road, plus Josh Turner for the deep-voiced Beeken. They're also big fans of Florida Georgia Line and promise their debut album will include a country-rock edge.

In recent months Restless Road have been road warriors, playing solo shows and opening for Lovato. They say that was terrifying at first, as a 10,000-seat arena is much different from the intimate 'X Factor' studio.

“I remember walking out, and all the lights were off, and hearing the roar of the crowd and the anticipation," Keim says. "It was a little intimidating at first, but it was so exciting and a dream come true."

The three young singers live together, so few secrets stay hidden long. When prodded they're quick to admit Andrew is always late and that they argue over One Direction, NBA basketball and what to eat.

“If one of us is eating really bad unhealthy food, the other -- mainly Andrew -- ‘Why are you eating that?’ That’s what we argue about the most."

Keep an eye on the group's Facebook page for an update about new music in 2015. Currently Restless Road is part of the Popnation -- On My Way Tour.
