Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced today that new Illinois drivers licenses will be rolling out this summer. This brings the state issued licenses and State ID cards into compliance with US Department of Homeland Security standards originally adopted over a decade ago. The new security features on the cards will help prevent fraud and identity theft, and will be allowed for air travel.

In addition to the new security features, we'll no longer be able to walk out of the DMV with new license in hand. You'll be issued a temporary paper ID, and your old ID will be returned to you, and after a thorough security fraud check, your new card should arrive in the mail with in 15 business days.
