Press release from Quincy Community Theatre

A swampful of students will star in Quincy Community Theatre’s Family/Student Theatre production of the greatest fairy tale never told—SHREK THE MUSICAL (TYA).

Over 75 talented young performers auditioned over two days for a chance to play the larger-than-life characters made famous by the Oscar-winning Dreamworks movie. The resulting cast features 28 actors and actresses from Baldwin Intermediate School, Canton R-V, Highland Elementary School, Highland High School, Quincy Junior High School, Quincy Notre Dame, Quincy Senior High School, St. Francis Solanus, St. James Lutheran School, and Western Elementary School, as well as several homeschooled students.

Starring in this “big, bright, beautiful world” are Camden Scifres as the loveable ogre Shrek; Dayton Job as his loud-mouthed companion Donkey; JT Atwood as the pint-sized villain Farquaad; and Meg Stalder as the gutsy princess Fiona. Also letting their freak flags fly are Olivia Clayton as Pinocchio; Audrey Molidor as Gingy, Savana Santos as Dragon; Greta Miller as Red Riding Hood/Puss in Boots; Julia Liesen as Wicked Witch; Ziven Crist as Swamp Guard; Maddi Ehmen as Peter Pan/Teen Fiona; Allison Hutson as Pig #1; Ava Miller as Pig #2; Emily Huseman as Pig #3; Zoe Drew as Ugly Duckling/Young Fiona; Darian Hebel as Mama Bear; Julian Mackenzie as Thelonius; Mitchell Molidor as Big Bad Wolf; Chloe Inman as Forest Guard; Joseph Regner as Bishop; Max Miller as Baby Bear; and Karli Colgrove, Kaitlyn Drew, Riley Holthaus, Sullivan Holthaus, Colleen Liesen, Ava Scifres, and Sawyer Smith as Citizens of Duloc.

With this group of students begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.

SHREK THE MUSICAL (TYA) is directed by Director of Student Theatre Kelsey Celek, with vocal direction by Jillian Wagner Miller, choreography by Drew Quintero and assistant choreographer Megan Maiers, costume design by guest designer Kristen Ahern, scenic design by Technical Director Paul Denckla, and properties design by Ashley Kenady. Sharon Ausmus serves as the stage manager and Jason Keller as the Backstage Manager.

Tickets are $12, on sale January 11. Performances are February 5-7, Friday-Saturday at 7:30 PM and Saturday-Sunday at 2:00 PM. For tickets, to volunteer backstage, or to serve as an usher, visit 1qct.org or call the QCT Box Office, located in the Oakley-Lindsay Center, at (217) 222-3209.
