Summer 2015 is flying by! Here are some of the fun upcoming August events around the Quincy/Hannibal area.

  • County Fairs

    Some of our local county fairs will continue in to August in 2015. The Adams County Fair, Pike County Fair and Marion County Fair will all take place through the first part of the month. Concerts are scheduled at both the Adams County Fair and Pike County Fair on Saturday, August 1. Craig Wayne Boyd, winner of The Voice, and Eric Paslay will be at the Adams County Fair in Mendon. The Swon Brothers will be in Bowling Green at the Pike County Fair. The Palmyra Young Farmers' Truck and Tractor Pull will be the grandstand entertainment at the Marion County Fair on August 1. The Brown County Fair in Mt. Sterling takes place August 4-9.

  • Blues in the District, Music Under the Stars and Down by the River

    There are plenty of opportunities to see local bands throughout the summer. Here are the August schedules for Blues in the District, Music Under the Stars and Down by the River:

    Blues in the District: August 14 - Jeremiah Johnson Band; August 28 Hector Anchondo

    Music Under the Stars: August 6 - Vertigo; August 13 - Mike Moore and Seth Wade; August 20 - Steppin' Back.

    Down by the River: August 14 - Big Deal Band.

  • Wild & Wacky Art Adventure

    The Hannibal Arts Council's annual Wild & Wacky Art Adventure is a free event for kids 3 to 12 and their families. The 2015 Art Adventure will take place in Central Park on August 1 from 9 to noon. This year’s theme “UNPLUG: Get Creative!” will be packed with hands-on projects exploring the creative arts as an option of stepping away from technology and rediscovering creative play and activities via the arts.

  • Center Park Day

    Center, Missouri's annual Center Park Day is scheduled for Saturday, August 1. Activities include a 5K run/walk, parade, multiple contests, corn hole tournament and street dance.

  • Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems

    Local baseball is a summertime favorite for many families, and it's even more fun when the Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems play one another. The Gems will travel to Clemens field on Saturday night, August 1, and again on Wednesday, August 5. The teams will both wrap up their regular seasons with a game at Q-Stadium on Thursday, August 6.

  • Triple Threat Boot Camp Showcase

    Over 50 students from across the Tri-States will take the stage at Quincy Community Theatre for this summer's Triple Threat Boot Camp Showcase on August 8. The Triple Threat Boot Camp is a week-long musical theatre intensive program for students in grades 5 through college, which provides comprehensive instruction in the three musical theatre disciplines: singing, dancing and acting. Tickets to the Triple Threat Boot Camp Showcase are $5. They go on sale August 3 at the QCT Box Office in the Oakley-Lindsay Center. Tickets can be purchased by phone at (217) 222-3209. Doors opens at 6:30 for general admission seating. The showcase begins at 7:30.

  • K of C BBQ

    The Knights of Columbus BBQ is August 13-16 at the K of C grounds on South 36th Street. Live music, contests, food, and an enormous carnival are all part of this annual end of summer celebration. Armband night at the carnival will be on Thursday.

  • Hannibal Football Jamboree

    High school football season will get underway unofficially on August 14 at Porter Stadium when Hannibal High School hosts the annual Football Jamboree, featuring the Hannibal Pirates, Palmyra Panthers, Mark Twain Tigers, Bowling Green Bobcats, Clark County Indians and Highland Cougars. 6 p.m. is kickoff. Tickets are $4 at the gate. Preschool $3. No passes, no family rates. MSHAA event.

  • Hull Picnic

    The Hull Picnic will be held for the 88th time in 2015 at the park. Baby contests, a parade, the Hull of a Race 5K, talent show, royalty contests, live entertainment and the chicken dinner will all be part of the event. The 88th annual Hull Picnic is August 14-16.

  • Bear Creek Rendezvous

    The Bear Creek Rendezvous at the Mark Twain Cave Complex is August 15-16. Described as a "true Native American experience," the event includes an open air market, authentic food and drinks, children's games and more! Hours are: Saturday 9 a.m.-dusk; Sunday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Quincy Mall Back to School Party

    Quincy Mall's Back To School Party is Saturday, August 22. Families can enjoy samples from Refreshment Services Pepsi, a Live Mannequin contest that will let Quincy Mall stores show off their best new clothing lines, and games and contests. Quincy Mall will be giving away $1,000 in gift cards during the event. Disney star Corey Fogelmanis, who plays Farkle in the hit show Girl Meets World, who will be on hand from 1-4 p.m. signing autographs and taking photos with fans.

  • A Day in Oz

    Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Clarksville, Missouri for "A Day in Oz" on Saturday, August 29. National Oz character touring group, Spirit of Oz, will perform and greet guests. The streets will be lined with vendor booths; including crafts, antiques, flea market, etc, as well as, food vendors. There will be a Little Mister Scarecrow and a Little Miss Dorothy contest, magic shows, live entertainment, petting zoo, Wicked Witch cackle contest, pie eating contest, and many more events. The day will end at dusk with an outdoor movie screening of the Wizard of Oz in Riverside Park.

  • Jungle Safari

    Jungle Safari brings in live exotic animals for four days to Quincy Mall's front lot. Jungle Safari is returning to Quincy Mall August 27-30. Jungle Safari does not charge admission for families to come in under the tent and look, although there are parts of the exhibit that require a fee, like a petting zoo, photo opportunities, and horse and camel rides.
