American's love their fireworks but there are laws regarding the use of fireworks. With that in mind, the Quincy Police Department has released the following information to the public.

Every year on the Fourth of July, Americans celebrate the birth of the nation by painting the sky with fireworks displays.  Fireworks can be spectacular to watch, but can be extremely dangerous in the hands of amateurs.  Fireworks account for many injuries every year, often these are in young children.

Celebrate smart and know the law when it comes to fireworks in Illinois.  Anyone violating the state statute or city ordinance concerning fireworks is subject to citation and fine.  Fireworks that are legal in Illinois include snakes, smoke bombs, sparklers, party poppers, and snappers.

The Quincy Police Department wishes everyone a safe and legal Independence Day.  Enjoy the celebrations, but leave the fireworks to the experts.
