It was the morning of January 11, 1981 and 5-year-old Alan Edward Madden awakened to what unfortunately would be the final day of his life. What happened to this little defenseless boy goes beyond description. At the age of 5, little Alan was beaten to death by his mother, Pamela Berg, and her boyfriend from Peoria, James Crain.  Both were tried and convicted.

In a release on Friday, the Prospect League states that "The DuPage Drones (Lisle, Ill.) and Hannibal Cavemen (Hannibal, Mo.) franchises have elected to suspend operations for the 2017 season. Both franchises are expected to resume operations and begin playing again starting with the 2018 season at locations to be determined."

The Quincy Fire Department currently has a wreath on each fire station with red and white lights on them They were all red bulbs but after each structure fire a white bulb replaces a red one and so far there are 4 white bulbs on each wreath.  Hopefully, those will be the only bulb replacements needed for the rest of this holiday season. The following tips from the Quincy Fire Department are recommended to keep another white bulb from going on the wreaths.
